How To Effectively Clean Cellular Shades

One of the very best types of window treatments that you can have for light control and insulation are cellular shades. They feature honeycomb shaped cells and trap air that is in between the room and window, to help keep your home warm during the winter and cool during the summer.  Cellular shades range from blackout to light filtering and can be customized to fit your specific lifestyle and needs. The shades will not be as easy to clean as blinds that have slats due to the shape of the honeycomb cells. However, although it might seem like a daunting chore, it is fairly easy to make these shades look brand new again.

The following are some useful tips to help keep your cellular shades in top condition.

1. Keep dust and dirt off of the shades

Vacuum your cellular shades lightly using an upholstery attachment or use a feather duster on a frequent basis to maintain the appearance of your shades.

2. Dirt and stains can be washed out of the shades

If your shades are stained with dirt, you can spot clean them using warm water and a mild detergent. Don’t use stain removers or bleach, since that will remove the dye from the shades.

3. Keep your shades looking sharp

One defining characteristic of cellular shades is their plates. Wipe down your shades to help keep them in shape. Wipe the soiled areas gently in the same direction that the pleats run so that stay looking crisp and sharp.

4. Don’t allow your shades to remain damp

Spot clean your cellular shades and then absorb the excess moisture with a dry towel.

5. Let them dry

Now it’s time for you to enjoy your just like new cellular shades!

It is actually very easy to keep cellular shades looking great. Just follow the above steps as often as you need to and they will last for years to come.
